Happy New Year! We share an update on our Bamboo Home, including photos, a brief video, and a new blog.
Last year was a very busy and exciting year for our Bamboo home construction (see plans). The excavation, foundation, and framing were completed. The bamboo exterior and roof were installed with special assistance from a crane, which was very exciting (view photos). Still in progress and mostly complete are the electric, plumbing and some finishing work. January has been busy with drywall and bathroom tile, which will be finished shortly. At the same time, we have been working hard on the landscape, grading and lava rock retaining walls. We are anticipating completion and move in by early spring!

Before. Notice the land around the front and side of the Ohana (guest suite) is narrow and steep.
After ground fill from contractor. The contractor added some ground fill about 4-5 feet around the perimeter of the house but was still steep and dropped off near the entry door.
Our finishing work. We have been very busy (and tired) this month moving lava rocks and boulders and shoveling gravel for fill. We especially added a lot of material around the Ohana (suite).
After our finishing work. There is now extended walk areas around the perimeter with a sturdy retaining wall and increased walking area around the suite entrance. We have retained a contractor to complete ground fill around the perimeter of the buildings starting this week. We also plan on adding a border wall around the front of the structures in the near future.
